Sam is a Biophysics PhD student at Harvard interested in the sequence determinants of substrate selectivity in proteins and how conformational dynamics shape protein evolution. He obtained his B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale in 2019. He is primarily working on mapping the determinants of metal import and selectivity in DraNramp in collaboration with Debora Marks’ group at Harvard Medical School, for which he uses deep mutational scanning, biochemistry, and bioinformatics. When not daydreaming about proteins, he likes to write fiction, escape to the mountains, and spend quality time with his cat, Linus Pawling.
